Product Introduction
This is a Roden "1/48 Scale World War I U.S. Army Air Corps Airco DH.4 Dayton-Wright Single-Engine Biplane Bomber" plastic model kit.
When the United States entered World War I, it had very few military equipment.
In order to quickly deploy military equipment, it purchased much of it from Britain, France, and other countries.
Among these, the D.H.4 was highly acclaimed and was eventually produced in the United States.
Due to a shortage of engines, Britain also produced models equipped with various engines, but the United States decided to produce its own version equipped with the domestically manufactured Liberty engine.
However, by the time the D.H.4 was deployed in combat, Britain had already deployed the improved D.H.9, and the D.H.4's drawback of catching fire when the fuel tank between the front and rear seats was highlighted. Crews shunned it, calling it a "burning coffin."
Therefore, the D.H.4B, with a modified fuel system, was produced, but it was not used in combat and was deployed to the newly established Naval Air Service.
After the war, it was sold to the public and used in aerial circuses and mail transport.
