The simple language and impeccable didactics, hallmarks of Professor Gentil, give fluidity to the text, allowing relevant and complex themes, such as: redox; basic forms and mechanisms of corrosion; coatings: cleaning and surface preparation; organic non-metallic coatings (inks and polymers) and inorganic; among many others. This seventh edition has undergone a complete and thorough content update to incorporate the innovations in the area of corrosion and anticorrosive protection. Among the novelties is the inclusion of exercises at the end of each chapter (with answers available online) to potentiate and consolidate learning. The book develops basic concepts, gradually increasing the complexity of the approach, which allows the reader to advance in their studies with greater ease and improve their understanding of the mechanisms of corrosion and how to combat it.. The already known image resources and the experiments that complement the text have been preserved and updated. Among the supplementary materials on Corrosion are Chapters 28 and 29 (respectively, “Case Study” and “Corrosion and Music”), in addition to Appendices A to C, all available upon registration on GEN-IO, the virtual learning environment of GEN | Grupo Editorial Nacional. The challenge of coordinating the revision and updating of this seventh edition fell to Ladimir José de Carvalho, professor at DPI/EQ of UFRJ, keeping the text aligned with the most diverse Engineering qualifications, and establishing a broader view on the influence of corrosion in other areas of knowledge, always with the care to preserve the characteristics of Professor Vicente Gentil's original text.?
