Magna Carta is a Korean-born RPG. Hardcore gamers might assume it's a PC game, but it's actually compatible with the PlayStation 2. As a highly acclaimed game in Korea, where PC games are the norm, its content is guaranteed.
The RPG genre is often set in a medieval Western setting. However, this game is set in a world that could be described as an Eastern fantasy. To bring this worldview to life, character design by Kim Hyun-tae, who is highly acclaimed in Japan, was hired. His touch is a perfect match.
The game is set on the continent of Iferia. Players take on the role of Karinz and experience the tragic conflict between the indigenous Yason and the immigrant humans. A wide variety of weapons and armor are available, obtained from tools and workshops. In the workshop, you can sometimes purchase special weapons and armor that aren't sold in the tool shop.
Also unique to this game are the "Sphere of Influence" and "Command Ring." During battle, both enemies and allies have a sphere of influence, and when an enemy enters the sphere of influence, they can attack. When the player attacks, a Command Ring appears in the center of the screen. Attacks can be executed by pressing the buttons displayed on this ring at the right time. The amount of damage inflicted on the enemy changes depending on the rhythm of button presses, adding a sense of tension to RPG combat, which can often be monotonous. (Hane Mitsuo)
