The original work by Matsumoto Seicho was written by Shinobu Hashimoto and Yoji Yamada, directed by Yoshitaro Nomura, and starring an all-star cast including Tsuyoshi Kato, Yoko Shimada, Tetsuro Tanba, and Kensaku Morita. Since its release in 1974, this evergreen work has been re-screened many times, digitally remastered, and released on DVD. A symphony composed by Yasushi Akutagawa's music director and Mitsusuke Kanno will be recorded from the original master tape for the film, in the order in which they were used in the film.
